The Seton Hill softball team returned to the field after an off day on Monday with a pair of games at Legends Park in Clermont, Florida on Tuesday afternoon.

Seton Hill won a wild first game over Ashland by the score of 7-6 in 11 innings. SHU then dropped a 7-1 decision to #7 Grand Valley State in game two.Â

The Griffins threatened in the top of the second inning.Â
Lauren Dellett and
Brooke Cleland singled to put runners on first and second with no one out. A foul out, strikeout and pop out to right ended the inning.Â

Ashland used two hits, including a triple with one out to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the second inning.Â
Â
The Griffins responded in the top of the third.Â
Nina Grandey reached on an error to open the inning. She was safe at second as
Brooklyn Fukushima reached on a fielders choice.Â
Mackenzie Zang singled to load the bases with no outs.Â
Grace Paredes followed with a two RBI single that tied the score at two. The Griffins could not push across another run as two flyouts and an infield pop out ended the inning.Â

SHU took the lead in the fourth with an unearned run.Â
Alexis Valencia singled to lead off the inning with an infield single and later stole second. She scored when Fukushima reached on an error with two outs to give SHU a 3-2 lead.Â

Ashland threatened in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on and one out but SHU starter Dellett got a strikeout and fly out to end the inning. The Eagles tied the score at three in the bottom of the sixth with a key two out, RBI triple.Â

With the international tiebreaker in effect, Valencia started the inning on second and later scored when Grandey singled to put SHU in front 4-3. The Eagles tied it with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at four.Â

Runner Fukushima moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Paredes sacrifice fly to give SHU a 5-4 lead. Ashland answered with a run to send it to the tenth.Â

Seton Hill overcame a tough call at the plate to start the tenth inning but
Morgan Toal came through with a clutch two out RBI single that gave SHU a 6-5 lead. Ashland tied the score at six with a run in their half of the tenth.Â
Â
Fukushima's sacrifice fly gave SHU a 6-5 lead in the top of the eleventh. Dellett was able to get a foul out, fly out and strike out looking to keep the Eagles off the board in the eleventh and earn the win.

Grandey led the Griffins with three hits. Paredes and Dellette each added two hits with Paredes driving in three. Dellett earned the win in the circle, going all 11 innings. She allowed three earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven. She threw 160 pitches, 105 of them for strikes.Â

Grand Valley scored runs in five of the seven innings.Â

The Griffins got their run on an RBI double from

Angelina LaMarca.

Grandey was the lone Griffin with two hits.Â

Seton Hill will be off on Wednesday afternoon before returning to action with doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday.Â
