A Pair of Walk Off Hits from Brooke Cleland Lead to Sweep of Mercyhurst

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they hosted PSAC West preseason favorite Mercyhurst on a windy Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.

Brooke Cleland had walk off hits in both games as the Griffins swept the Lakers.  Cleland's single gave SHU a 2-1, 8 inning win in game one.  Cleland then launched a three run shot to left field as the Griffins defeated the Lakers 6-5 in game two.  SHU is now 11-7 overall and 4-0 in the west.

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in game one with a run in the top of the second inning.

The Griffins tied the game at one in the fifth.  Brooklyn Fukushima singled to lead off the inning.  Later in the inning, Bre Athey reached and scored on an error to tie the score at one.

The game headed to the eighth inning still tied at one.

Lauren Dellett got the Lakers 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth.  Mackenzie Zang led off the bottom half of the inning with a single.  She moved to second on a sac bunt by Grace Paredes.  Dellett drew a walk and scored on the walk off single to left from Cleland.

Zang and Cleland each had two hits for SHU.  Dellett earned the win in the circle with a complete game.  She allowed six hits and struck out one.

In game two, the Lakers scored a single run in the first and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings as they took a 5-0 lead over the Griffins.

With one out in the sixth, Cleland homered to left to cut the lead to 5-1.  Kylie Hegland followed with a single and stole second.  Hegland scored when Tristin Koerner reached on an error.

In the seventh, Grandey opened the inning with a single.  She stole second and scored when Paredes doubled as SHU cut the lead to 5-3.  Lauren Dellett was hit by a pitch.  Both Dellett and pinch runner Alexis Bonatch moved up on a wild pitch setting up the dramatic walk off.  Cleland cleared the left field fence for her second homer of the game as the Griffins walked off the Lakers.

Cleland and Abby Smearman had two hits for SHU.  Harlowe Nigh earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning.

SHU will host Pitt Johnstown on Tuesday afternoon in another PSAC West doubleheader.
