Baseball Takes Advantage of Free Passes at Shippensburg

The Griffins got in final preparations for PSAC West play as they made the trip to Shippensburg for a single nine inning contest on Tuesday afternoon.

Seton Hill took advantage of eleven free passes and scored four times in the top of the ninth innings as they defeated the Raiders by a 6-2 score.  SHU is now 11-7 on the season.

SHU got on the board first in the top of the first inning.  Jack Whalen was hit by a pitch.  He moved to second on a Max Mandler single.  Later in the inning, Vincenzo Rauso was hit by a pitch and Jack Oberdorf walked to load the bases.  Logan Vietmeier flew out to center field with Mandler scoring on the play.

The Raiders used back to back doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning as they tied the score at one.

SHU retook the lead in the top of the seventh.  Braden Durham and Owen Sabol were hit by pitches to put the first two runners on.  Both runners moved up on a throwing error.  After a strikeout, Cameron Colwell flew out to right field, scoring Durham to give SHU a 2-1 lead.

Shippensburg tied the score at two with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth.

The Griffins continued to take advantage of free passes in the ninth as they scored four times.  Aidan Shephard was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  Sabol drew a four pitch walk.  Matt Frazetta walked to load the bases.  After a strikeout, Whalen walked to force in a run and give SHU a 3-2 lead.  Mandler added a sacrifice fly to score Sabol.  Rauso then reached on an infield single with two runners scoring on the play.

Mandler led the offense with two of the three Griffin hits.  Andino Vecchiolla threw five scoreless innings in the start.  He gave up two hits and struck out two.  Blake Barker threw a perfect ninth to close out the game.
