Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Sweeps LeMoyne to Earn Series Win

The Seton Hill baseball team hosted LeMoyne in the second doubleheader of their four game on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.

The Griffins swept the Dolphins with a 5-0 win in game one then walked off the Dolphins with a 5-4 win in game two.  SHU won three of the four games in the series and is now 10-7 on the season.

Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.  In the bottom of the fifth, Michael Gregos and Matt Frazetta were hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.  Later in the inning, Gregos scored on a sacrifice fly from Jack Whalen to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Max Mandler singled to drive in pinch runner Blake Barker and give SHU a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Barker singled to score Owen Sabol and extend the lead to 3-0.  Cameron Colwell and Whalen each added RBI hits in the inning.

Kevin Vaupel went the distance for the complete game shutout win.  He gave up just two hits while striking out 11.  Whalen and Mandler each had two hits.

It did not take the Griffins nearly as long to score in game two.  Jack Oberdorf homered with one out in the bottom of the first inning as SHU took a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Oberdorf drew a one out walk.  He moved to third on a Mandler single.  Vincenzo Rauso walked to load the bases.  Braden Durham singled to drive in Oberdorf and extend the lead to 2-0.  After a fielders choice, Logan Vietmeier singled to drive in two and give SHU a 4-0 lead.

They held that lead to the top of the seventh inning.  The Dolphins scored two runs on a walk and hit batter and tied the score on a two RBI single that put runners at first and third with no one out and the score tied at four.  A ground out to short and a double play line out to short ended the inning and kept the score tied at four.

In the bottom of the seventh, Rauso drew a two out walk.  He stole second and moved to third on a throwing error.  Rauso then scored on a wild pitch to give SHU the walk off win.

The Griffins will travel to Shippensburg on Tuesday for a non conference matchup.
