The Griffin softball team closed out their spring trip with a pair of games in Legends Park in Clermont, Florida on Friday afternoon.
SHU used the bat of
Grace Paredes and the arm of
Lauren Dellett for a 1-0 win over Holy Family in game one.
Seton Hill got on the board first on a lead off bomb to left center field from
Grace Paredes in the bottom of the second inning.
Holy Family threatened in the top of the fourth inning. They got a leadoff double with a wild pitch that put a runner at third with no one out.
Lauren Dellett was able to get a strikeout, foul out and strikeout looking to end the inning. The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth but Dellett got a pop out to
Alexis Valencia in left to end the inning.
Dellett earned the complete game, five hit shutout win. She struck out ten batters.
Camryn Murphy led the offense with two hits including a double.
In game two,
Nina Grandey, Dellett and Parades singled to lead off the game with Grandey scoring on Paredes single.
Chloe Elliott walked and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Dellett. Later in the inning,
Brooklyn Fukushima singled to score Paredes and give SHU a 3-0 lead after a half inning.
In the third, Elliott drew a leadoff walk and scored on a two run bomb to center field from Murphy as the Griffins increased their lead to 5-0.
Wheeling got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the SHU lead to 5-1. The Griffins answered right back in the top of the fifth. Murphy led off the inning with a double and scored on a
Brooke Cleland single to give SHU a 6-1 lead.
SHU put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning. Elliott singled in two runs and Murphy added an RBI single.
Bre Athey added two more runs with a single and
Tristin Koerner drove in the final run.
Koerner and Murphy each had three hits to lead the Griffins. Grandey, Dellett and Cleland finished with two hits. Elliott earned the win in the circle. She went the distance and struck out two.
Seton Hill is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday at Davis & Elkins.
