Seton Hill played its next to last contest in Florida when they traveled to Lakeland for a matchup with Florida Southern on Friday afternoon.
Florida Southern scored multiple runs in the first four innings in route to a 18-10 victory over the Griffins. SHU is now 6-6 overall.
The Griffins got on the board in the top of the first inning.
Jack Whalen led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a two run bomb from
Vincenzo Rauso that gave SHU a 2-0 lead. Florida Southern answered with two runs of their own in their half of the first to tie the score at two.
The Moccasins took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. They added four more runs in the third as they extended their lead to 11-2.
SHU got three runs back in the fourth inning on a three run homer from
Owen Sabol that cut the Mocs lead to 11-5. Florida Southern added six more runs in the fourth to push their lead to 17-5.
Rauso scored on a wild pitch and
Logan Vietmeier scored when
Braden Durham grounded out and SHU trailed 17-7 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
The Griffins added two more runs in the ninth on RBIs from Vietmeier and Sabol.
Rauso, Vietmeier and Durham each had three hits to lead SHU. Sabol added two hits. Sabol also drove in four runs.
The Griffins will close out their spring trip on Saturday against the University of Sioux Falls (SD).
