The Seton Hill men's basketball team looked to clinch a spot in the PSAC Postseason as they hosted Edinboro on Wednesday evening in PSAC West play.
All five Griffin starters reached double figures as the Griffins clinched their first playoff spot since 2018-19 with a 103-81 victory over the Fighting Scots. SHU improves to 15-9 overall and 10-8 in the PSAC.
The Griffins took an 8-0 lead to start the game on two three pointers from
Sean Dillon and two free throws from
Ryan Meis. The Scots battled back to 12-10 with 13:11 left in the half. Baskets from Meis and
Gabe Gillespie pushed the lead back to 18-12 with 12:04 remaining. Right before the midpoint of the half,
Samuel Tabe and
Jimmy Moon hit back to back three pointers as the Griffins took a 26-18 lead.
The lead increased to ten on two
Michael Joiner free throws. The Scots then used a 13-0 run to take a 36-34 lead with 4:32 to play in the half. Six straight points from Tabe gave the Griffins a 40-36 lead with two minutes to play before the half. Meis followed with a three pointer and
Drew Green's fastbreak layup made it 45-36 with a minute left. The Griffins carried a 47-41 lead into the halftime break.
After the Scots scored the first basket of the half, the Griffins responded with threes from Moon and Green and a dunk from Green to extend their lead to 55-43 just over a minute into the half. Five quick points from Meis extended the lead to sixteen, 70-54 with 12:54 to play in the half. Joiner followed with back to back layins and the Griffins lead ballooned to 19 (76-57) with just over eleven minutes to play.
The Griffins were able to keep their lead at least sixteen points and as many as twenty four points over the final ten minutes of the contest.
All five Griffin starters reached double figures led by Dillon's 23 points. He also added six assists. Tabe posted a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Meis also scored 16 points and added five steals. Green finished with 14 points and Moon added 13.
Seton Hill shot 56% from the floor in the game and were 62% in the second half. SHU also forced 20 Scot turnovers which led to 32 Griffin points.
The Griffins travel to Pitt Johnstown on Saturday for another PSAC West contest.
