Men's Basketball Comes Up Just Short at UPJ

Seton Hill made the trip up the mountain to take on Pitt Johnstown in a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Mountain Cats outscored the Griffins by a 7-2 margin over the final 3:45 as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 78-75.  SHU drops to 15-10 overall and 10-9 in the PSAC. 
 
Pitt Johnstown scored the first ten points of the contest as they led 10-0 with 16:38 to play.  UPJ extended their lead to 18-7 with fourteen minutes remaining.  The Griffins responded with ten straight, six of them from Samuel Tabe on two three pointers.  SHU trailed 18-17 with 11:53 to play.  Eight straight from UPJ pushed the lead to 26-17 midway through the half. 
 
Back to back three pointers from Sean Dillon and Jimmy Moon along with a Dillon layup cut the UPJ lead to 26-25 with 7:31 to play.  The Mountain Cats continued their hot shooting from three point land as they added three more threes to take a 35-27 lead with 4:37 left.  SHU closed the half on a 14-7 run as they trimmed the UPJ lead to 42-41 at the half.  Dillon hit a three at the halftime buzzer to cut the lead to one. 
 
Dillon and Tabe opened the second half with baskets to give SHU a 45-42 lead less than two minutes into the half.  UPJ answered with five straight before a Caleb Whitaker basket tied the score at 47 with 14:47 left in the half.  Tabe scored five straight points for the Griffins as they trailed 54-52 with 11:43 to play.  After Ryan Meis hit a three pointer to put the Griffins back in front, UPJ answered with three straight baskets to take a 60-55 lead with 9:20 to play.
 
SHU responded with baskets from Tabe and Joiner and a three from Dillon to take a 62-60 lead forcing a UPJ timeout with just over eight minutes to play.  UPJ answered with five straight to take a 71-68 lead with 4:20 to play.  Two Tabe free throws and a Dillon three put SHU back in front 73-71 with 3:49 left.  The Mountain Cats outscored the Griffins 7-2 over the final 3:45 to close out the win. 
 
Tabe posted a double double of 25 points and 12 rebounds.  Dillon tossed in 23 points.  Caleb Whitaker added 10 points. 
 
The Griffins will continue PSAC West play on Saturday at California (PA).
