SHU Falls in PSAC West Play at CalU

The Griffins made the short trip down I-70 to California (PA) for an important PSAC West matchup with the Vulcans. 
 
California pulled away in the second half for an 80-68 victory over the Griffins.  SHU is now 15-11 overall and 10-10 in the PSAC. 
 
Seton Hill got two baskets from Sean Dillon and one from Caleb Whitaker in the first four minutes as they trailed the Vulcans 8-6 at the first media timeout.  CalU built a 19-12 lead before two baskets from Gabe Gillespie and one from Whitaker trimmed the Vulcans lead to 19-18 with 10:32 to play in the half. 
 
A three point play from Drew Green at the 8:02 mark cut the Vulcans lead to 23-21.  A driving layup from Michael Joiner and a three from Jimmy Moon gave SHU a 31-28 lead with 3:34 to play but the Vulcans answered with back to back threes as they took a 34-31 lead with 1:53 to play in the half.  Cal took a 36-33 lead into the halftime break. 
 
CalU opened the second half with eight straight points as they extended their lead 44-33 with 18:48 to play forcing a SHU timeout.  SHU responded with ten straight points on back to back threes from Moon and Samuel Tabe and two layups from Sean Dillon as they cut the Vulcans lead to 44-43 with 16:29 to play in the half. 
 
The Vulcans then went on a 14-3 run as they built a 58-46 lead with 11:41 to play in the half.  The Vulcans were able to extend their lead to 63-49 with 10:07 left in the half.  Green's three pointer with 4:50 to play cut the Cal lead to ten at 72-62. 
 
Tabe led the Griffins with 17 points.  Whitaker also reached double figures with 10.
 
Seton Hill will host Gannon on Saturday for Senior Day.
