The Griffins began their home portion of the schedule with a doubleheader with Walsh on Thursday afternoon.
Three Griffin pitchers combined on a two hit shutout in a game one, 6-0 win. The Griffins completed the sweep of the Cavaliers with a 3-2 win in game two. SHU is now 3-2 on the season.
It did not take long for the Griffins to get on the scoreboard in game one as
Jack Oberdorf homered down the left field line on a 1-0 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins added another run in the bottom of the third.
Logan Vietmeier reached on an infield single and moved to second on an error with one out. Vietmeier moved to third on a
Vincenzo Rauso single and scored on a squeeze play by
Braden Durham.
SHU added two more runs in the fifth. Oberdorf led off the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Vietmeier. Durham singled, stole second and scored when
Max Mandler reached on an error.
Seton Hill added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. With one out, Rauso walked. He moved to third on a Durham double. Rauso scored when Mandler hit a sacrifice fly and Durham scored on a
Michael Gregos single as SHU led 6-0.
Brandon Bergert earned the win. He went 5.2 innings, giving up one hit while striking out ten.
Blake Barker went 2.1 innings and struck out four. Rauso and Whalen each had three hits. Oberdorf, Vietmeier, Durham and Gregos each added two hits.
SHU took a lead in the second inning of game two. Vietmeier doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a groundout. He scored on a single from Gregos to make it 1-0.
It was a repeat of the second inning in the fourth for the Griffins. Vietmeier led off with a double and scored on a Gregos RBI single as SHU took a 2-0 lead.
Walsh finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning of game two on a two run homer to center field that tied the score at two.
The Griffins retook the lead on a double steal from
Noah Sweeney and Whalen in the fifth inning.
Jon McCullough worked three shutout innings in his first start of the season.
Caiden Wood earned the save with two shutout innings. He gave up one hit and struck out four. Vietmeier and Gregos each had two hits for the Griffins.
Seton Hill will conclude the three game set with a single game on Sunday.
