Seto's Game Winner, Haralson's Triple Double Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Seton Hill hosted Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center needing a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Griffins used a game winning basket from Alie Seto with 1.5 seconds to play and a triple double from Sakeria Haralson as they defeated the Lakers 72-71 to remain alive in the race for the PSAC postseason.  The Griffins are now 18-13 overall and 11-11 in the PSAC.

Harralson's triple double (22/12/10) is just the second in Division II this season with blocks.  It is also the first triple double with blocks in the PSAC since the 2014-15 season.  The 10 blocks are the most blocks in a game at Seton Hill and tied for the most in a game in Division II this season.

The Griffins played one of their best quarters of the season as they led for the entire quarter while scoring 26 points.  Hallie Cowan opened the scoring with a three and Haralson followed with a basket to give SHU an early 5-0 lead.  Three straight baskets from Haralson, Seto and Hallie Cowan pushed the Griffins lead to 17-8 with 4:11 to play.  A Seto three and a Maddy Moore basket gave SHU a 22-10 lead with two minutes to play.  The Lakers outscored the Griffins 7-4 over the final two minutes as SHU led 26-17 heading to the second quarter.

SHU began the second quarter on a 7-2 run as they took their largest lead of the game fifteen (34-19) with 6:33 remaining before the half.  The Lakers were able to battle back and trim the SHU lead to 41-34 at the halftime break.

The third quarter was all Mercyhurst as they outscored the Griffins 19-8 as they took a 53-49 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Griffins hit four free throws to open the fourth quarter and tie the score at 53, three minutes in.  After a Laker three, SHU hit three free throws and Christiane Frye drilled a three pointer to put SHU in front 59-56 with 5:31 left.  The Lakers retook a 60-59 lead before four straight points from Haralson gave SHU a 63-60 lead with 3:26 left.  Haralson answered a Laker three and Helene Cowan finished a layup as the Griffins took a 67-63 lead with 2:15 to play.  The Lakers weren't done as they hit a four point play to tie the score back at 67.  Haralson finished another layup to put SHU up two and after a Laker turnover Haralson hit one of two free throws as SHU led 70-67 with less than a minute to play.  Mercyhurst scored four straight to take a 71-70 lead with 20 seconds to play.  After a Griffin miss, SHU was forced to foul with five seconds to play.  The Lakers missed both free throws, setting up Seto's game winner.  SHU called a timeout and advanced the ball to the side opposite the scorers table.  Haralson took the inbounds pass and found Seto who spun towards the hoops and finished at the rim with 1.5 seconds to play, giving SHU the 72-71 lead.  The Lakers were not able to get a shot up in the final 1.5 seconds.

Haralson finished with a triple double of 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks.  Seto added 17 points and eight rebounds.  Helene Cowan also reached double figures with 12 points.

The Griffins will find out their PSAC playoff fate after Saturday's games in the league are completed.
