Seton Hill made the short trip to California (PA) for a PSAC West contest with the Vulcans on Wednesday evening.
SHU rallied from twelve points down to take a late lead but CalU scored the final five points of the game in a 68-66 win. SHU is now 17-12 overall and 10-10 in the PSAC.
The Griffins took an early 5-2 lead on a field goal from
Sakeria Haralson and a three pointer from
Hallie Cowan. California took an 8-7 lead before a
Christiane Frye layup gave SHU an 9-8 lead at the first quarter media timeout. Another Haralson basket and two free throws from Frye gave SHU a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Emma Fischer drilled a three to open the scoring for the Griffins in the second quarter and extend the lead to 16-12. A three pointer from
Courtney Tomas and a driving layup from Fischer pushed the lead to 23-17 with 5:54 to play.
Joi Burleigh's layup with 4:08 to play gave the Griffins a 28-24 lead but the Vulcans outscored the Griffins 13-2 over the final four minutes to take a 37-30 halftime lead.
CalU scored the first four points of the second half before Seto ended the Cal run with a basket. Seto's three cut the Cal lead to eight at 43-35 with eight minutes to play. Four straight points from Frye and a Haralson basket got the Griffins to within six at 49-43 at the end of the third quarter. SHU closed the quarter on an 8-2 run.
The Griffins scored seven points in a seventeen second span as they were able to cut the Vulcans lead to 55-53 with 7:13 to play. Haralson had a three point play and
Hallie Cowan hit four free throws in the run. Frye's twp free throws tied the game at 62 with 4:44 to play. Back to back layups from Haralson gave SHU a 66-63 lead with 2:35 to play. The Vulcans scored the final five points of the contest to earn the win.
Haralson led SHU with 19 points, including 11 in the fourth. Seto finished with 14. Frye and
Hallie Cowan each added 10. Tomas pulled down 11 rebounds.
SHU will return home for Senior Day on Saturday as they host Gannon.
