Seton Hill hosted top ranked Indiana (PA) in front of a packed house on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins overcame a slow start to take a lead late in the first half but the top ranked Crimson Hawks pulled away using a big second half in a 75-52 victory over the Griffins. IUP improves to 21-0 overall and 15-0 in the PSAC while the Griffins drop to 12-9 overall and 7-8 in the PSAC.
IUP came out on fire as they hit their four of their first five shots to take a 13-0 lead over the Griffins just under three minutes into the contest. Seton Hill scored their first bucket on a three pointer from
Drew Green and then eleven of the next fourteen points as they were able to cut the IUP lead to 16-14 on a three point play from
Samuel Tabe with 11:19 left in the half.
Gabe Gillespie had six of the eleven points with Tabe adding the other five.
Five straight points from Green tied the score at 19 with 8:59 to play before the half. Two layups from Tabe and
Michael Joiner gave the Griffins their first lead of the game at 23-21 with 7:06 left. Joiner's three point play put the Griffins in front 26-23 with 5:35 left. IUP then responded with a 9-0 run before a
Ryan Meis three trimmed the Crimson Hawk lead to 32-29 with just over a minute left. IUP scored the final basket as they took a 34-29 lead into the halftime break.
Just like in the first half, IUP came out hot in the second half, starting the half on an 8-0 run as they took a 42-29 lead less than two minutes into the half.
Sean Dillon ended the IUP run as the Griffins got back to within ten but the Crimson Hawks continued to build on their lead throughout the remainder of the second half as they were able to stay unbeaten on the season.
Tabe led the Griffins with 14 points. He also added nine rebounds. Gillespie posted a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Seton Hill will travel to Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
