Griffins Pull Away from Chestnut Hill with Huge Second Half

Seton Hill hosted Chestnut Hill in a battle of the Griffins at Pitt Greensburg on Saturday afternoon in non conference play.  

SHU used a 49-25 second half to pull away from Chestnut Hill and defeat CHC by the score of 87-60.  SHU is now 5-2 on the season.  Chestnut Hill falls to 1-8 to start the season.  

Three pointers from Ryan Meis and Sean Dillon and a free throw from Drew Green gave SHU an early 7-2 lead.  Chestnut Hill battled back to take an 18-16 lead midway through the half.  

Trailing 23-20, Meis and Gabe Gillespie hit back to back three pointers that keyed a 14-0 run that put the Griffins in front 34-23 with 4:25 to play in the half.  Chestnut Hill answered right back with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 34-31 with just over a minute to play.  Seton Hill led 38-35 at the halftime break.  

A layup from Caleb Whitaker and a three from Jimmy Moon pushed the Griffins advantage back to seven early in the second half.  Chestnut Hill fought back and cut the Griffins lead to 52-51 with 12:55 to play in the half.  Moon drilled a three and Meis followed with a basket as the Griffins pushed their lead back to six with 11:18 to play.  Moon hit another three and Green followed with a tip in as SHU took a 62-53 lead midway through the half.  

Chestnut Hill was able to get back within eight at 68-60 with 6:06 to play but that would be the final basket of the game for CHC as the Griffins closed out the contest with a 19-0 run.  

Seton Hill dominated on the stat sheet as well as they shot 57% from the field and 48% from three to just 38& and 25% for Chestnut Hill.  SHU outrebounded Chestnut Hill 45-20 in the contest.  

Whitaker led the Griffins with 15 points.  He just missed a double double with nine rebounds.  Moon added 14 points on four three pointers.  Gillespie finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Meis was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 11 points.  Kedrick Curtis just missed double figures with nine points.  

The Griffins will travel to Glenville State on Wednesday for another non conference matchup.
