Five Griffins Reach Double Figures in Win

Seton Hill concluded non conference play with a road contest in West Virginia on Wednesday evening as the Griffins traveled to Glenville State.

Five Griffins reached double figures in a 69-57 victory for the Griffins.  SHU is now 6-2 overall and the Pioneers fall to 5-5 on the season.

Glenville led the Griffins for the first half of the first half.  The lead was as big as four points but the Griffins tied the score at 19 midway through half.  A three point play from Gabe Gillespie and two free throws from Ryan Meis put the Griffins in front 24-19 with 9:19 to play before the half.

The Pioneers scored the next six to take a one point advantage with just under seven minutes to play.  Ryan Meis' free throw tied the score at 25 before James Rice put the Griffins back in front by two.  Dimitrios Sklavenitis extended the lead to 29-25 with 4:46 left.  Glenville retook the lead but a three pointer from Meis and a dunk from Drew Green gave SHU a 36-32 halftime lead.

The Pioneers scored the first six points of the second half to take a lead but Meis tied the score at 38 with 16 minutes to play.  Jimmy Moon's three pointer put the Griffins back in front 43-40 with 13:17 left.

The Griffins took control of the game with a 10-0 run over a four minute stretch that gave SHU a 55-45 lead with 7:46 left in the half.  Meis had four of the ten points in the run.  An 8-0 run from the Griffins put the game away as SHU pushed their lead to 63-47 with 4:33 to play.  Caleb Whitaker scored four of the eight points in the run.

SHU forced 19 turnovers while only committing six.

Meis led the five Griffins in double figures with 15 points.  Sklavenitis and Gillespie each added 11 points.  Green and Whitaker each finished with 10 points.

The Griffins will return to PSAC play on Monday and Tuesday when they host Lock Haven and Mansfield in PSAC Crossover action.
