The Griffin women ended 2023 with a road contest at Bloomsburg in a PSAC Crossover matchup.
Bloomsburg outscored the Griffins by four in the final period for a 78-73 victory over the Griffins. SHU drops to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC.
Sakeria Haralson scored the first six points for the Griffins as they took a 6-5 lead with 6:22 to play in the first quarter. Bloomsburg then scored nine of the next 11 points as they built a 14-8 lead after one quarter of play.
Bloomsburg opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run as they built a 22-10 lead with 7:39 to play in the first half. A three pointer from
Paula Llovich and a basket from
Abby Mankins cut the lead to 24-17 with six minutes to play. The Huskies then built their lead up to as many as fifteen before a three pointer from Mankins and a basket from
Mia Kalich in the last minute cut the halftime deficit to 37-28.
Haralson and
Hallie Cowan scored in the first minute of the third quarter as SHU cut the lead to 37-32. After a Huskie basket, Llovich hit a free throw and Kalich and Haralson connected on layups to trim the lead to 39-37 with 6:20 to play.
Hallie Cowan hit a three pointer at the five minute mark to trim the lead to 41-40. Baskets from Corrine Eisner and Haralson with two free throws from
Hallie Cowan and one from Kalich tied the score at 50 with 1:23 left. Bloomsburg hit a free throw to take a 51-50 lead.
Midway through the fourth quarter the Griffins took a 59-58 lead on four straight points from Llovich. Bloomsburg answered back with seven points in less than a minute to take a 65-59 lead with 4:24 to play. Llovich ended the run with a three pointer and after two free throws from Bloom, another Llovich three pointer cut the lead to 67-65 with 3:28 left. Mankins layup with 53 seconds to play cut the lead to 70-67. Bloomsburg then went 6-6 from the line in the last minute to close out the game.
Llovich led SHU with a career high 18 points on 4-4 from three point land. Haralson picked up a double double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Mankins finished with 11 points and
Hallie Cowan also reached double figures with 10 points.
Seton Hill will kick off 2024 with a PSAC Crossover matchup at home with Millersville on Wednesday evening.
