Seton Hill closed out their three contest homestand with a PSAC Crossover with Mansfield on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins led for most of the contest and pulled away in the second half for a 72-51 victory over the Mountaineers. SHU is now 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC while Mansfield falls to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC.
SHU came out of the gates fast as they built a quick 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the contest.
Helene Cowan opened the scoring with
Sakeria Haralson adding two points and
Hallie Cowan drilling a three pointer. Another three pointer from
Hallie Cowan extended the lead to 12-3 midway through the quarter. A layup from
Christiane Frye pushed the lead to 14-5 with four minutes to play. SHU led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Mansfield scored the first six points of the second quarter as they took an 18-16 lead just over a minute into the quarter. The Griffins responded with a 10-0 run on four points each from
Helene Cowan and
Paula Llovich as they led 26-18 with 2:44 to play in the half. A three pointer from Llovich extended the lead to eleven with a minute to play. SHU took a 35-27 lead into the halftime break.
Frye scored seven points as SHU opened the second half with a 10-0 run to build a 45-27 lead with 6:27 to play in the third. Mansfield bounced back with a 7-0 run of their own to trim the lead back to eleven. A layup from
Hallie Cowan gave SHU a 51-37 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Frye scored three and
Abby Mankins added a basket as SHU built their lead to 56-37 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers cut the lead to fourteen midway through the quarter but baskets from Mankins, Llovich and
Mia Kalich extended the lead back to twenty with three minutes to play.
The Griffins forced 24 turnovers and held Mansfield to just 27% shooting from the field in the win. SHU shot 41% from the floor in the contest.
Frye led SHU with a game high 22 points. She also added seven rebounds and five steals.
Hallie Cowan also reached double figures with 10.
Helene Cowan and Llovich each tossed in nine points. Kalich finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
SHU will return to action on December 30th when they travel to Bloomsburg for another PSAC Crossover.
