Seton Hill began PSAC play with a PSAC Crossover matchup at Shepherd on Friday afternoon.

The Griffins used a big second quarter to take a lead and defeat the Rams by the score of 83-66. SHU improves to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC.Â

The first quarter was tightly played as neither team led by more than four points. SHU took a 10-6 lead after back to back baskets from
Helene Cowan and
Sakeria Haralson at the 6:20 mark. Shepherd responded with an 8-0 run to take a 14-10 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. Shepherd led 18-15 after one quarter of play.Â

SHU outscored the Rams 9-5 over the first half of the second quarter as SHU took a 24-23 lead.Â
Christiane Frye had four points in the run. Six quick points, four from Haralson put the Griffins in front 33-25 with 3:23 left before the half. Frye extended the lead to nine but a basket at the halftime buzzer from Shepherd cut the Griffins lead to 38-31 at the half.Â

Shepherd scored the first six points of the second half as they cut the Griffins lead to one less than two minutes into the half. The Griffins responded with a 12-0 run over a four minute stretch to take a 50-37 lead.Â
Helene Cowan opened the run with a three and
Paula Llovich scored five points in the run. Four straight from
Hallie Cowan and a basket from Frye extended the lead to 56-38 with 2:52 to play. SHU led 60-47 at the end of the third quarter.Â

Mia Kalich and Frye hit layups and Llovich added a three in a 7-0 run as the Griffins built their lead to 22 at 72-50 with 5:52 left. Shepherd scored the next six to trim the lead to 72-56. The Rams would get no closer than 10 points as SHU opened PSAC play with a win.Â

Frye finished with a double double of 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead SHU.
Helene Cowan added 15 points. Haralson also added a double double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Â Llovich also reached double figures with 10 points.

The Griffins will continue PSAC Crossovers on Saturday when they travel to Shippensburg.Â
