Football Wins Third Straight to Clinch FIrst Winning Season in PSAC West Play

Seton Hill traveled to Erie for a PSAC West matchup with Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins defeated the Lakers 14-0 to improve to 5-5 overall and close out PSAC West play at 4-3.  The 4-3 record marks the first winning season in PSAC West play in school history.

After forcing a three and out on the first Laker possession, the Griffins took the lead on their first offensive drive of the game.  Ky'Ron Craggette capped off the drive with a 43 yard run to the endzone to give the Griffins a 7-0 lead with 11:50 left in the quarter.  SHU drove to the Lakers 33 yard line on their next possession but turned the ball over on downs to end the drive.  SHU led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, the Griffin defense forced a turnover on downs at their own 24 yard line.  The Griffins forced another turnover on downs and took over at their own 45 with 56 seconds left in the half.  On the fourth play of the drive, Jake Cruz connected with Cody Rubrecht for a 30 yard touchdown pass to extend the Griffins lead to 14-0 right before the halftime break.

The teams exchanged punts to open the second half.  Demetri Whitehead then intercepted a pass to give the Griffins the ball at the Laker 15 yard line.  The Griffins could not take advantage of the field position and turned the ball right back over.

In the fourth quarter, the Griffins forced two more turnovers on downs and were able to run the clock out with a six minute drive late in the quarter.

Bryce Dare rushed for 99 yards in the win.  Craggette added 68 rushing yards and a touchdown.  Rubrecht had two catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Josh Cohen led the defense with eight tackles, including four for loss.

The Griffins will close out the season next weekend at Millersville.
