Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock on Senior Day with a PSAC Postseason spot on the line for the winner as the teams battled in a PSAC West contest on Friday afternoon.
The Griffins scored three goals in the second half as they earned the postseason berth with a 4-2 win over the Rock. SHU is now 4-5-1 in the west while the Rock ends the season at 4-6.
Nevlyn Harper took
Brandon Knapp's throw in and scored from about 25 yards out to open the scoring just 3:53 into the contest. The Rock answered with a goal in the 25th minute to tie the score at one. The teams entered the halftime break tied at one. SHU held a 10-6 advantage in shots in the half.
Just 3:08 into the second half, the Griffins retook the lead. A give and go between
Oscar Heggem,
Vasilis Christodoulou and
James Aubrey set up the goal for Heggem as SHU took a 2-1 lead. With just over 15 minutes remaining in the half,
Ethan Opiela stole a pass back and put it into the back of the net to extend the Griffins lead to 3-1. Seven minutes later Aubrey finished off Harper's corner kick to give SHU a 4-1 lead. The Rock added a late PK for the final goal.
Harper and Aubrey each had a goal and assist for the Griffins.
Aiden Hollander recorded a save in the win.
SHU will begin the PSAC Tournament on Monday when they travel to second seed Mercyhurst in the PSAC Quarterfinal. The game is set for a 6 PM start.
