The Griffins hit the road for the first time this season as they traveled to Salem, WV for a non conference matchup with Salem University on Wednesday afternoon.

Salem used an 11-0 run in the first quarter to take a lead they would not give up in an 84-75A  victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 1-2 on the season.Â

Salem built an early 7-2 lead on the Griffins but an
Abby Mankins basket and five straight points from
Christiane Frye put the Griffins in front 9-7 midway through the quarter. Salem responded with an 11-0 run to take an 18-9 lead with two minutes to play. Five straight from Frye and a jumper from
Corinne Eisner cut the lead to 20-16 at the end of the first quarter.Â

The Tigers opened the second quarter with seven straight points as they built their lead to 27-16. The lead ballooned to as many as 16 points in the quarter as a Frye layin trimmed the lead to 46-33 at the halftime break.Â

Salem built their lead to 20 points at 57-37 with six minutes to play in the third quarter. Two
Hallie Cowan free throws and a
Mia Kalich layup trimmed the lead to 58-44 with four minutes left in the quarter. Salem led 66-47 after three quarters of play.Â

A 7-2 run from the Griffins that concluded with a three pointer from Frye cut the Salem lead to 72-58 with 6:52 to play in the contest. A Frye layup with 4:18 left cut the lead to thirteen at 76-63. A layup from
Helene Cowan and a
Hallie Cowan three pointer cut the lead to 83-74 with just over a minute to play.

Frye led the Griffins with a game high 30 points.Â
Hallie Cowan finished with 13 points and
Helene Cowan added ten. Kalich pulled down 10 rebounds.Â

SHU will continue non conference play on Saturday when they host Malone.Â
