Seton Hill concluded play in the MEC/PSAC Challenge as they battled host and #3 ranked West Liberty on Saturday evening.
SHU put up a fight in the first half and only trailed by six at the half but the highly ranked Hilltoppers pulled away in the second half for a 101-67 victory. SHU falls to 1-1 while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-0.
The Griffins took an early 5-0 lead on a three point play from
Dimitrios Sklavenitis and a jumper from
Ryan Meis. Layups from
Caleb Whitaker and
Kedrick Curtis and a three from
James Rice put the Griffins in front 12-6 just four minutes into the half. Meis drained a three and
Drew Green threw down a dunk as SHU built a 20-15 lead with 13:03 left. Midway through the half, the Hilltoppers led 28-24.
A three pointer from Meis and a
Gabe Gillespie layup tied the score at 40 with 3:03 to play before the half. The Hilltoppers outscored the Griffins 8-2 over the final three minutes as they took a 48-42 lead into the halftime break.
Over the first nine minutes of the second half, West Liberty went on a 31-5 run as they took a huge lead on the Griffins.
Meis and Whitaker each scored 14 points to lead the Griffins.
The Griffins will travel to Salem for a non conference matchup on Wednesday.
