Seton Hill hosted Clarion on Friday evening in PSAC West action in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins battled Clarion in each set but the Golden Eagles were able to sweep the Griffins in the match. SHU falls to 12-16 overall and 5-10 in the west while Clarion improves to 22-5 overall and 12-3 in the west.
Clarion jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over the Griffins in the first set. Kills from
Paige Cole,
Catie Flohr and
Elizabeth Kolkowski and a
Kendyl Wagner ace cut the lead to 10-8. With Clarion leading 24-18, the Griffins ran off four straight points on a Flohr kill and ace and block from
Payton Rodberg and
Mara Yahner to cut the lead to 24-22. Clarion won the set 25-22.
Kills from
Abby Oesterling and Flohr gave SHU a 14-10 lead in the second set. A kill from Yahner extended the lead to 17-12. Clarion then went on a 9-2 run as they took a 21-19 lead. Flohr tied the set at 23 with a kill but Clarion scored the final two points of the set.
The Griffins led in the early portions of the third set but a 7-2 Clarion run gave them a lead they would not give up.
Cole and Flohr each had nine kills to lead the Griffins. Oesterling had 19 assists to pace the team. Wagner led SHU with 13 digs.
The Griffins will close out the season on Saturday when they host IUP.
