Seton Hill opened the 2023-24 season and the
Maeve Gallagher Era on the hill as they hosted the Atlantic Regional Challenge on the hill. The Griffins hosted Concord University in the opening game of the challenge on Friday afternoon.
The Griffins pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 90-75 victory over Concord as the Griffins improve to 1-0 on the season.
SHU came out of the gates fast as they took a 10-3 lead less than four minutes into the contest.
Hallie Cowan and
Abby Mankins each hit threes during the run. Concord battled back and were able to take a 19-18 lead at the end of the quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, the Mountain Lions took a 32-26 lead. The Griffins responded with an 11-0 run to take a 37-32 lead with 2:23 left in the half. Six different Griffins scored during the run including a three pointer from
Corinne Eisner. The Griffins led 40-36 at the halftime break.
Hallie Cowan opened the third quarter with a three pointer that pushed the Griffin advantage to 43-36. Concord answered back with a 14-3 run as they took a 50-46 lead with 4:40 to play in the quarter. Five straight from
Hallie Cowan and back to back buckets from
Sakeria Haralson gave SHU a 53-50 lead with 2:50 left. A three from
Helene Cowan and a layup at the buzzer from
Hallie Cowan gave SHU a 62-57 lead after three quarters.
Seton Hill pushed their lead to as many as 12 during the early portion of the fourth quarter before settling for a 15 point victory.
Hallie Cowan led SHU with a game high 21 points.
Christiane Frye posted a double double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Helene Cowan finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. Haralson had 12 rebounds.
The Griffins will take on Fairmont State on day two of the Atlantic Regional Challenge at SHU on Saturday evening at 6 PM.
