The Griffins Women's Volleyball team made the short trip to Cal U (PA) on Saturday for a crucial PSAC West matchup.
Juniors
Paige Cole and
Abby Oesterling anchored the Griffins as they were able to close out the Vulcans in five sets. SHU is now 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC West, while Cal U falls to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC West. Â
Seton Hill got off to a hot start in the first set with a 25-18 win. SHU finished the set with 14 kills while hitting .344, and more importantly limited their hitting errors to only three for the entire set. However, the Vulcans would respond by taking the next two sets in the match, 26-24 and 25-18. The Griffins were able to regain control of the contest in the fourth set, winning seven of the final eight points to take the set 25-18. This run in the fourth was sparked by service aces from
Paige Cole and
Abby Oesterling, along with two kills by
Catie Flohr.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead in the final set, and they never looked back. Seton Hill would go on to rack up nine kills in the final set, closing out the match 15-10.
Paige Cole led Seton Hill with 21 kills.
Catie Flohr also reached double figures with 15 kills.
Abby Oesterling led the offense with 28 assists.
Kendyl Wagner paced the Griffin defense with 21 digs.
Seton Hill will be back in action on Friday, October 13th when they travel up to IUP for another PSAC West match.Â
