Griffins Sweep Pitt Johnstown

Seton Hill returned home for a PSAC West matchup with Pitt Johnstown on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center.

The Griffins rallied in the first two sets and then led from the start in the third set in a sweep of the Mountain Cats.  SHU is now 3-6 in the West while the Mountain Cats drop to 5-4.  

UPJ took an early 14-9 lead in the first set before Kendyl Wagner ran off four points from the service line on two kills from Paige Cole to cut the lead to 14-13.  Back to back kills from Cole and Abby Oesterling gave SHU a 20-19 lead.  UPJ then scored four of the next five points to take a 23-21 lead.  The Griffins then scored four straight points to win the set on two kills from Catie Flohr and one each from Oesterling and Cole.  

After UPJ took a 2-0 lead in the second set, SHU ran off six straight to take a 6-2 lead, the final two on two aces from Oesterling.  UPJ battled back and took a 15-12 lead midway through the set.  Trailing 20-17, SHU scored four of the next five points to tie the set at 21.  Payton Rodberg had two kills in the run.  UPJ scored the next point before the Griffins scored four of the last five for a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 set win.  Cole had two kills in the final four points.  

The Griffins used a 9-0 run early in the set to take a 13-3 lead over UPJ.  Kate Eden served two aces during the run.  UPJ fought back to cut the lead to 15-14 before a block from Cole and Mara Yahner and a Kaitlyn Lipps kills led to a 4-0 run which gave SHU a 19-14 lead.  Flohr ended the match with a kill as SHU took the set 25-21.  

Cole led SHU with 11 kills.  She added two blocks and an ace.  Flohr also reached double figures with 10 kills.  She also added three blocks.  Oesterling had 16 assists, 12 digs, seven kills and three aces.  Eden had seven assists and two aces.  Wagner had 11 digs.

Seton Hill continues PSAC West play on Friday when they travel to Edinboro.
