Seton Hill returned home to host Clarion in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.
The Griffins took a 24-13 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a 66-49 victory over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC.
Just under five minutes into the Griffins led Clarion by a 9-7 score.
Hallie Cowan hit back to back three pointers and
Sakeria Haralson added two free throws as the Griffins went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-7 lead with 2:55 to play in the quarter. Just before the buzzer
Helene Cowan finished a layup to give SHU a 24-13 lead.
Midway through the quarter the Golden Eagles were able to trim the Griffins lead to 31-23 but the Griffins were able to close the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 38-23 halftime lead.
Courtney Tomas had four of the seven points during the run.
Two free throws and a three pointer from
Alie Seto in the early portion of the third quarter extended the Griffins lead to 43-27 with 7:15 to play. Clarion was able to go on a 13-4 run over the final seven minutes of the quarter as they cut the Griffins lead to 47-40 after three quarters of action.
Over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Griffins outscored Clarion 11-0 as they took a 58-40 lead. Seto had five points during the run. Clarion would get no closer than 14 points down the stretch as the Griffins earned the PSAC West win.
The Griffins shot 46% from the field while holding Clarion to just 28% from the floor. They also outrebounded the Golden Eagles 41-33. The Griffins were able to force 17 Clarion turnovers.
Seto just missed a double double with a team high 16 points and nine rebounds.
Hallie Cowan also reached double figures with 14 points. Haralson also just missed a double double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Helene Cowan added eight points.
The Griffins will host Slippery Rock on Wednesday evening in another PSAC West contest.
