Seton Hill returned home for the first time in 2023 as they hosted Clarion in a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins took a twelve point lead at the break and were able to extend their lead in the second half as they defeated the Golden Eagles by a 90-68 score. SHU is now 7-6 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC.
SHU took a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest behind five points from
Sean Dillon and two from
Samuel Tabe. Three straight three pointers, two from Dillon and one from
Jimmy Moon, gave the Griffins an early 16-2 advantage just over five minutes into the contest. A three point play from
Michael Joiner and a steal from Tabe and a fast break layup from Joiner extended the Griffins lead to 28-8 midway through the half.
Clarion battled back and was able to get back to within nine points over the next ten minutes before the Griffins took a 44-33 lead into the halftime break.
Ryan Meis opened the second half by hitting a three pointer. Back to back three pointers from Dillon and Tabe and a basket from
Caleb Whitaker put the Griffins in front 55-37 less than four minutes into the second half. Over the next six minutes the lead fluctuated between 14 and 19 points.
The Griffins had two quick 6-0 runs over the final ten minutes as they were able to extend their lead to as many as 28 points.
SHU shot 59% from the field while holding Clarion to just 37% from the field. The Griffins won the points in the paint battle by a margin of 52-20.
Five Griffins reached double figures in the win led by Dillon who finished with 19 points. Meis added 14 points and seven assists. Whitaker added 12 points. Tabe had a double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Jimmy Moon also reached double figures with 10 points.
Seton Hill returns to action on Wednesday evening when they host Slippery Rock.
