The Griffins began PSAC West play on Wednesday evening as they traveled to top ranked Indiana (PA).
Seton Hill battled top ranked IUP but the Crimson Hawks pulled away in the final eight minutes of the second half in route to a 76-55 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC while IUP improves to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC.
Seton Hill took an early 4-2 lead over the Crimson Hawks on baskets from
Samuel Tabe and
Michael Joiner. Two straight baskets from
Brock Baker cut the IUP lead to 11-10 with 13:02 remaining in the first half. IUP scored the next seven points to extend their lead to eight at the under 12 media timeout.
A fast break layup from
Ryan Meis ended an 11-0 IUP run and got the Griffins back to within ten at 22-12 with just over seven minutes left in the half. Two free throws from Tabe and a steal and three pointer from
Jimmy Moon got the Griffins back to within eight at 29-21 with just under three minutes left in the half. A basket from
Caleb Whitaker at the buzzer cut the lead to 31-25 at the half. SHU ended the half on a 9-2 run.
Back to back baskets from
Drew Green, including a three, helped the Griffins trim the lead to 33-30 under three minutes into the second half. IUP was able to push their lead to eight points, 44-36 at the under 12 media timeout. IUP was able to increase their lead to 49-36 and force a Griffins timeout with eleven minutes to play.
A quick five points, three from Moon and two from Joiner cut the lead to 53-46 with just over eight minutes to play as SHU went on a 10-2 run to get back into the contest. IUP responded with back to back threes to increase their lead to 59-46 with 6:30 remaining.
Green and Tabe led the Griffins with 10 points each. Both Joiner and Whitaker added nine points. Whitaker just missed a double double as he finished with 10 rebounds.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon when they host Clarion.
