Seton Hill made their second trip to Erie in four days, this one to Mercyhurst, for a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.
Mercyhurst led for nearly the entire contest as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 66-56. Seton Hill drops to 14-9 overall and 7-7 in the PSAC while the Lakers are now 13-8 overall and 8-6 in the PSAC.
After a bucket from Mercyhurst to start the contest,
Helene Cowan hit a three pointer to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead early in the game. The Lakers would score the next eight points as they took a lead midway through the quarter. It was a lead they would hold for the remainder of the contest. The Lakers led 17-7 after one quarter of play.
Mercyhurst extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the second quarter. SHU closed the half on a 6-0 run, the final five points from
Emma Fischer, to cut the Lakers lead to 36-25 at the half.
Seton Hill went on an 11-3 run in the third quarter as they fought back to within three, 41-38, midway though the quarter.
Hallie Cowan hit three three pointers during the run with the other bucket coming from
Helene Cowan. A late three pointer from
Hallie Cowan cut the Laker lead to 49-44 entering the fourth quarter.
SHU made one last push in the fourth quarter as they used a three pointer from
Maddy Moore and baskets from
Christiane Frye and
Hallie Cowan to trim the lead to 60-64 with two minutes to play. The Lakers went 4-4 from the line to close out the win.
Halie Cowan led the Griffins with 17 points. Frye also reached double figures with 14 points.
Sakeria Haralson pulled down 12 rebounds.
Seton Hill continues PSAC West play on Wednesday when they host Indiana (PA). SHU will celebrate 100 years of basketball on Wednesday.
