Seton Hill made a second trip to Erie in four days as they traveled to Mercyhurst for a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.
Mercyhurst took an early lead on the Griffins and led for the final 38 minutes in an 82-71 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 12-8 overall and 7-7 in the PSAC while the Lakers improve to 15-3 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC.
Drew Green opened the scoring for the Griffins with the opening bucket of the game. Mercyhurst scored the next six points and led 6-2 before
Samuel Tabe's basket cut the lead to 6-4 with 17:19 to play in the first half. The Lakers then went on an 11-2 run as they took a 17-6 lead just over four minutes into the contest. The Lakers kept their lead between 13 and 17 points the remainder of the half as they took a 42-29 lead into the halftime break.
Early in the second half, the Lakers used a 13-0 run over a four minute stretch as they built their lead to 62-36 with 13:15 left in the contest. The Griffins went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 64-46 with 8:29 to play in the second.
James Rice scored four points in the run. Seton Hill used another 8-0 run late in the half to cut the Lakers advantage to ten with under two minutes to play. That was as close as the Griffins would get.
Green led the Griffins with a season high 20 points. Tabe finished with 12 points.
Sean Dillon added 11 points and
Gabe Gillespie also reached double figures with 10.
The Griffins will host top ranked Indiana (PA) on Wednesday evening.
