Men's Hoops Runs Winning Streak to Four

Seton Hill entered Wednesday night's PSAC West contest against Pitt Johnstown looking to extend its winning streak to four contests.

The Griffins pulled away in the second half for a 79-71 victory over the Mountain Cats as they were able to extend their winning streak to four.  SHU is now 10-6 overall and 5-5 in the PSAC while UPJ drops to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC.

UPJ took an early 7-2 lead over the Griffins less than four minutes into the contest.  Two three pointers from Ryan Meis tied the score at 10 with 15:08 to play in the half.  Midway through the half, the Mountain Cats led 20-16.

The Griffins then responded with a 14-0 run as they took a 30-20 lead with 4:49 to play in the half.  Jimmy Moon and Sean Dillon each hit three pointers in the run.  Meis' three pointer with 3:01 remaining in the half extended the Griffins lead back to seven at 33-26 before the Mountain Cats scored the final five points of the half with SHU taking a 33-31 lead into the halftime break.

Three pointers from Moon, Dillon and Meis plus a Drew Green basket put the Griffins in front 44-33 with 16:51 left in the half.  James Rice hit a three pointer with 14:54 to play as SHU pushed their lead back to eleven points.  UPJ got back to within six but Green answered with a three pointer to push the lead back to nine, 56-47 midway through the half.

A quick 6-0 run from the Mountain Cats was answered by back to back baskets from the Griffins, a three from Meis and a two from Samuel Tabe, as SHU led 61-53 with 8:31 left.  Each time UPJ would try and get close, the Griffins answered with a three pointer.  Moon hit one with 5:31 to play and Dillon followed with one at the 4:42 mark as SHU led 70-61.  Five straight from UPJ trimmed the lead to four but the Griffins got two free throws from Dillon and a Moon three to lead 75-66 with 1:03 left.  Green and Dillon each hit two free throws as SHU was able to put the game away.

SHU shot 49% from the floor while holding UPJ to just 44%.  The Griffins also hit 14 three pointers in the contest.

Dillon led four Griffins in double figures with 17 points.  Meis added 15 points while Moon scored 14.  Tabe also reached double figures with 10.

SHU will host Bloomsburg in a PSAC Crossover on Saturday afternoon.
