Griffins Earn PSAC West Road Win at Edinboro

The Griffins hit the road for the first time in over a week as they made the trip to Edinboro for a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.

Seton Hill scored 52 points in the second half to erase a two point halftime deficit and defeated the Fighting Scots by the score of 87-77.  SHU is now 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the PSAC.  The Griffins are winners of three straight.

Edinboro came out of the gates hot, drilling three three pointers in the first 2:02 as they took an early 9-0 lead over the Griffins.  The Griffins responded with eight straight points over a 1:10 stretch to cut the lead to just one at the 16:32 mark of the first half.  SHU took their first lead of the contest on back to back baskets from Drew Green and Samuel Tabe as SHU led 12-11 with 14:29 to play.  Another 8-0 run from the Griffins, the last three on a Green three pointer, put the Griffins in front 21-16 with 9:09 left in the half.

SHU held that lead until Edinboro went on a 10-0 run and took a 29-23 lead with 5:34 to play in the half.  Back to back baskets from Tabe cut the lead to one but Edinboro responded with five straight to push their lead back to 34-27 with 2:50 left.  Five straight points from Sean Dillon and a three pointer from Jimmy Moon at the buzzer cut the Scots lead to 37-35 at the halftime break.

Seton Hill retook the lead, 40-38 with 16:24 to play in the second half, after two Dillon free throws and a Ryan Meis three pointer.  Back to back three pointers from the Scots put them back in the lead, 45-42, just over five minutes into the half.  A three point play from Green tied the score at 45 just a minute later.  Back to back driving layups from Dillon and Green put the Griffins back in front 52-51 midway through the half.

Dillon followed with a free throw and another layup to extend the lead to 55-51 with 8:57 to go.  Green followed with four straight free throws and Tabe added a three pointer as SHU pushed their lead to 62-54 with just under eight minutes remaining.  Moon's three pointer with 4:20 to play gave the Griffins a 75-63 lead.  The Griffins were able to close out the contest by hitting seven free throws down the stretch.

Dillon led the Griffins with 25 points.  He added five assists.  Green finished with 17 points while Tabe had a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Meis also reached double figures with 10 points.

SHU will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Pitt Johnstown at 5:30 PM.
