After falling behind by two goals in the first half, Seton Hill came back to draw even early in the second half against 15th-ranked Lake Erie. But the Storm notched the go-ahead score in the 62nd minute and would go on for a 6-2 win over the Griffins Sunday afternoon at DSG Field.
The Storm controlled possession for a large portion of the first 10 minutes and it led to the opening goal in the 11th minute. Lake Erie would add a second goal at the 15:12 mark before the Griffins created an opportunity and took advantage. The Storm keeper was looking was to pass out of his own goal, but good pressure by
Fletcher Amos led to a turnover. Amos stole the pass and worked around the keeper to score for his second of the season and Seton Hill cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 18th minute.
The goal gave some momentum to the Griffins, who nearly evened the score 10 minutes later. A SHU break into the Lake Erie end saw a great cross from the left side that
Cai Pritchard put a solid header onto net, but the Storm keeper managed to get a hand on it to keep it out of the goal. Lake Erie had an opportunity to add to their lead in the final minute, but
Bobby White made the save, his second of the half, to keep it a 2-1 LEC advantage going to halftime.
The Griffins seized the momentum immediately after the break. Just 45 second sinto the half,
Archie Lock had a shot attempt blocked that led to a corner. Lock then delivered a perfect ball into the box that
Wilfred Munn headed into the right side of the net for his first goal of the season and Seton Hill had evened the score at 2-2 just a minute into the second half. The Griffins kept the pressure on over the next 10 minutes, and nearly moved in front in the 57th minute. A SHU shot attempt got past the keeper, but trickled just outside the right post and the match remained tied.
Just over five minutes later, an unfortunate break for the Griffins turned into the go-ahead goal for Lake Erie. The Storm cleared the ball out after a SHU corner and on the counter attack, a loose ball in the crease was gathered by the Storm and fired into the goal to put the visitors in front 3-2 in the 62nd minute. Lake Erie built off that goal and would post three more goals in the final 18 minutes to pull away for the victory to even their record at 1-1-1.
Amos and Munn collected the goals for the Griffins in the match, while Lock had an assist and a team-leading three shots. In goal, White stopped three shots.
Seton Hill will have nearly a week to prepare for its next match. The Griffins will open PSAC West play against Gannon on the road next Saturday in a match scheduled to kick off at 6 pm
