Griffins Post Shutout Over Salem

Behind a pair of goals from Archie Lock and five second-half saves from Nathaniel Huff, Seton Hill pulled away late to post a 3-0 victory over visiting Salem Saturday, the initial win for first-year SHU head coach Dilveer Chaggar

The Griffins were on the attack from the onset of the match. A great cross from Cai Pritchard into the box set up Fletcher Amos, but only a strong save by the Salem keeper kept Seton Hill from scoring in the 12th minute. Then after the third of three corner kicks in a one minute span for the Griffins, the Tigers committed a foul outside the box. Archie Lock then delivered a perfectly placed free kick past the Salem keeper for a 1-0 SHU advantage in the 16th minute.

The lead nearly doubled less than a minute later when Pritchard rocketed a shot in front of the net. The ball hit the cross bar and came straight down, but the linesman ruled the ball did not cross the goal line and play continued. The Griffins would control play through much of the first half, posting an 8-2 advantage in shots and a 7-3 margin in corners while carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half started out differently for each side. Salem started creating consistent chances, but would be unable to get one past Griffin keeper Huff. After the Tigers managed just two shots in the opening half and none on goal, Salem got off four attempts in the first seven minutes of the half. But Huff stopped the two on goal and stopped two more inside of a minute around the 54th minute to keep the Tigers off the board.

After fending off the Salem threats early in the half, the Griffins began to create more chance of their own and it paid off in the 71st minute. A SHU rush led to a Salem foul in the box and Lock converted the PK attempt for his second goal of the day and a 2-0 lead. Seton Hill added one late to complete the scoring. Pritchard, who was robbed on a great save by the Tiger keeper in the 86th minute, had another chance in the 88th. His hard shot from the right side caromed off the keeper, but right to Anton Dupont Linden, who buried the rebound for his first of the season with 1:42 to play for the final score of the match.

Lock's two goals were his first of the season, while Linden's was also his first and Pritchard picked up an assist. Making his first start of the season, Huff made five saves, all in the final 45 minutes, to post the clean sheet.

Seton Hill will go back into PSAC play for their next match, traveling to Mercyhurst for a 1 pm kickoff Wednesday afternoon.
