Despite posting a 17-10 advantage in shots, Seton Hill couldn't overcome an early scoring run from Roberts Wesleyan, who struck for three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match and went on to post a 5-0 victory over the Griffins Wednesday.
The visitors posted the first goal in the sixth minute on a well-placed through ball behind the SHU defense. In the 12th minute, Roberts Wesleyan got another through ball that led to the second goal and less than two minutes later, the Red Hawks scored a third time for a 3-0 lead.Â
While RWU capitalized on their chances, the Griffins were unlucky on their end. Seton Hill had four of the next five shots of the match and their best chance was in the 25th minute, but
Archie Lock's attempt clipped the cross bar and stayed out of the net. Then in a 29th minute, a SHU penalty in the box led to a converted PK by the Red Hawks and they carried a 4-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, RWU continued their efficient play, scoring on their only shot of the half in the 52nd minute. The other seven shots of the half were by the Griffins, but three were stopped and Roberts Wesleyan finished with the victory.
Lock led the Griffins with five shots in the match, including three on goal, while
Elias Mobrin,Â
Luc Holden,
Andrew Compton and Nadeem Al-Okin all had two shots each.
Bobby White made one save in goal in his 59 minutes of action before
Nathaniel Huff came on for the final 31 minutes in goal.
The Griffins will be at home again Saturday for another non-conference match, as they host Salem University at 1:30 pm
