In a match that featured several chances on both sides, neither Seton Hill or Edinboro were able to get a goal across and the teams settled for a 0-0 draw in PSAC West action Saturday on DSG Field.
The Griffins (3-0-2, 0-0-2) dominated the early stages of the opening half, getting a pair of corners and firing off five shots in the first 11 minutes of the match. Two of the shots were on goal, but stopped and play settled into a more even pace on both sides. The Scots had a flurry of action to close out the half. They managed five shots in the final 15 minutes of the half, but four were off target and Griffin keeper
Grace Kenyon stopped the other. Seton Hill finished the first 45 minutes with an 8-6 margin in shots, including four on net, but the match remained scoreless at the intermission.
The second half opened the same as the first, with the Griffins generating chances. The home team had four corner kicks and posted three shots in the first nine minutes after halftime, but couldn't get one in the net. Just before the 60th minute, another SHU shot was saved and the Scots had their best chance coming the other way. Edinboro put a ball in the box and a shot to the right of Kenyon banged off the post to keep the match scoreless.
The final 20 minutes saw each team with solid chances at the go-ahead goal. The best opportunity of the day belonged to the Griffins in the 75th minute when
Alexis Garia hit a strike that was stopped and a rebound attempt by the Griffins trickled just outside the left post. Kenyon would also be tested down the stretch by Edinboro, as she stopped three shots in the final 15 minutes, including her final save with 1:42 remaining, and the clock would expire with zeroes on both sides of the scoreboard.
Seton Hill finished the afternoon with a 17-12 shot advantage and had nine shots on goal.
Madison Carr had a team-leading four shots, including three on net, while Garia and
Corynna Rotoli had two each. With her four saves in the match, Kenyon kept the Griffins' goals-against average for the season unblemished. Seton Hill now has a stretch of five straight matches and 450 minutes without a goal allowed to open the season.Â
The Griffins will be on the road for their next two matches with a pair of trips to Erie. On Wednesday, Seton Hill will journey to Mercyhurst for a 1 pm kickoff against the Lakers. Then next Saturday, SHU will head north again to play Gannon.
