Griffins Take Opening Game of Super Regionals

Seton Hill made a little history on Thursday afternoon when they took to the field at Kutztown University's North Softball Field in the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional.

The Griffins scored seven times in the fourth inning as they took a one game to none lead in the best of three series with a 7-0 win over Kutztown.  SHU is now 40-10 on the season.

Both pitchers did a good job of stranding runners on base in the first three innings as the game was scoreless with each team leaving five runners on base.

The Griffins broke through in the top of the fourth inning.  Brooke Cleland led off the inning with a single.  Grace Paredes drew a walk and both runners moved up when Nina Grandey was retired with a sacrifice bunt.  Mackenzie Zang picked up two RBIs with a key single to give the Griffins the lead.  Nichole McClendon was then robbed with an unreal play from the Kutztown center fielder with a diving catch in left center field.  Jenna Osikowicz reached on an error to put two runners on.  Morgan Ryan followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0.  Morgan Toal walked to load the bases.  Brooklyn Fukushima knocked in two with a hit and Cleland and Paredes added RBI hits as SHU built a 7-0 lead.

Ryan earns her 17th win of the season with a complete game six hit shutout. She struck out five in the win.

Osikowicz and Cleland each had two hits.

SHU will take on Kutztown on Friday afternoon at 1 PM in game two of the Supers.
