Seton Hill continued play in the 2022 Atlantic Regional 2 on Friday afternoon when they played the host and six seed Shippensburg in the winners bracket final.
The Griffins scored a run in the seventh to tie the contest then walked off the Raiders by a 3-2 score in the bottom of the tenth inning to move into Saturday's Atlantic Regional 2 Final. Seton Hill improves to 38-10 overall and the Raiders drop to 32-19.
Shippensburg used a hit batter, ground out and single to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the first inning.
SHU tied the game at one in the bottom of the third inning.
Jenna Osikowicz was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
Bre Athey pinch ran for Osikowicz.
Morgan Toal singled and moved to second on a throw as Athey advanced to third. After a ground out, Fukushima drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Pinch hitter
Lauren Dellett reached on a fielders choice with Athey scoring on an error to tie the score at one.
The Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning when a runner scored on a wild pitch.
SHU was not done as they battled to tie the score at two in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Fukushima reached on a single, moving to second on an error. Pinch hitter
Shayleigh Gulvas moved Fukushima to third with a sacrifice bunt before Fukushima scored on a sacrifice fly by
Grace Paredes.
Shippensburg got a runner to second in the eighth inning with one out but
Chloe Elliott got a pop up and strikeout to end the inning. With two outs in the eighth, Osikowicz singled and Elliott walked but a foul out ended the inning.
The Raiders loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth but Elliott got a flyout to end the threat. The Griffins loaded the bases with two outs.
Grace Paredes walked,
Nina Grandey singled and
Mackenzie Zang walked to load the bases but a long fly out ended the inning.
Elliott worked around a one out single in the tenth, setting up the dramatics for the Griffins. Osikowicz and Elliott walked to begin the inning.
Brooke Cleland singled to load the bases. Fukushima then hit a fly to deep left field which easily scored Osikowicz and send the Griffins to the regional final.
Osikowicz led SHU with three hits.
Morgan Ryan went 2-2 and worked seven innings in the circle. She struck out eight. Elliott worked three shutout innings to earn the win.
SHU will play in the regional final on Saturday at 11:30 am against against the winner of Shippensburg/Claflin, who will play at 9 am Saturday.
