Griffins Moving on In NCAA Atlantic Regional

Seton Hill opened play in the 2022 NCAA Atlantic Regional on Thursday afternoon against seventh seed Claflin at Robb Field in Shippensburg, PA.

The Griffins got key RBI hits from Brooklyn Fukushima and Mackenzie Zang as they were able to advance in the regional with a 3-0 win over the Lady Panthers.  Seton Hill is now 37-10 on the season while Claflin falls to 21-14.

SHU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Nichole McClendon and Jenna Osikowicz drew walks to start the inning.  Both moved up on wild pitches.  After two pop outs, Fukushima came up big with a RBI infield single on a 2-1 pitch to give SHU an early lead.

That would be the only run Griffin starter Morgan Ryan would need as she was able to keep the Lady Panthers off the scoreboard.

Seton Hill added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Fukushima opened the inning with a single.  She was forced out at second when Brooke Cleland reached on a fielders choice.  Grace Paredes singled to put runners on first and second.  Nina Grandey moved pinch runner Kelleigh Pollock and Paredes to second and third with a sacrifice bunt.  Zang then singled to right field, driving in two huge insurance runs to increase the Griffins lead to 3-0.

Zang then threw out a runner trying to steal second before Ryan ended her day with her seventh strikeout as the final out of the fifth inning.

Lauren Dellett then got the final six outs of the game as the Griffins moved on in the regional.

Ryan and Dellett combined on a three hit shutout.  Ryan improved to 16-2 on the season.  She gave up two hits in five innings while striking out seven.

Fukushima led the Griffins with two hits.

Seton Hill moves on to the winners bracket final where they will meet host Shippensburg at noon on Friday.
