Griffins Split Four Game PSAC West Set with IUP

After splitting their PSAC West home doubleheader with Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon, the Griffins traveled to IUP for the final two games of their four game set on Sunday afternoon.

Just like Saturday, the teams split the doubleheader on Sunday with IUP winning 8-5 in game one and the Griffins winning 9-5 in game two.  SHU is now 18-6-1 on the season and 6-2 in the PSAC West.

IUP again jumped on the Griffins first in game one.  They used a single and two wild pitches to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the first inning.  The Crimson Hawks increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs on three singles in the second inning.

SHU tied the game at three in the third inning.  Omar Ward was hit by a pitch to open the frame.  He moved to third on an error on the pitcher and then scored when Elijah Snider hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1.  Brandon Kline walked, stole second and scored on a Vincenzo Rauso double.  Rauso scored when Jack Oberdorf singled to tie the game at three.

The Crimson Hawks then used five hits and a walk to score five times and take an 8-3 lead over the Griffins.

Seton Hill scored twice in the seventh inning on RBI singles from Rauso and Oberdorf.

Rauso and Oberdorf each had two hits and two RBIs.  Kline and Neal McDermott each went 2-2 in the game.

The Griffins scored three times in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead in game two.  McDermott walked to lead off the inning.  Drew Garth followed with a single.  McDermott scored on a Snider single to make it 1-0.  Jake Orr and Rauso each added RBI singles to increase the lead to 3-0.

SHU added to their lead in the third inning.  Garth tripled with one out.  Snider and Kline each followed with RBI doubles to give SHU a 5-0 lead.  IUP got back to back doubles to trim the SHU lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

Back to back doubles from Zachary Ramach and Owen Sabol pushed the Griffin lead to four in the top of the fourth.  Orr singled in Kline in the fifth inning as SHU built a 7-2 lead.  Doubles from Sabol and Oberdorf along with a Garth single increased the Griffins lead to 9-2 in the sixth inning.  IUP scored three times in the seventh inning but Nash Bryan got the one batter he faced to strike out to end the game.

Andino Vecchiolla earned the win with 5.2 innings of work.  He gave up two runs on five hits while striking out seven.  Garth led SHU with three hits.  Sabol, Snider and Orr each added two hits.

The Griffins will travel to Altoona on Tuesday for a matchup with Millersville at PNG Field.
