Seton Hill traveled to Edinboro on Wednesday afternoon with a chance to clinch its second straight PSAC Western Division title with a road PSAC West win.
The Griffins made sure that they would leave Edinboro with their second straight crown as they scored four times in the first 1:09 of the contest in route to a 20-0 win over the Fighting Scots. With the win, the Griffins improve to 14-3 overall and 10-2 in the west. SHU has now won ten straight contests.
As PSAC Western Division Champions, the Griffins will now host the PSAC Women's Lacrosse Final Four on May 6-8. Both semifinals will be played in Greensburg on May 6th with the PSAC title game to be played on May 8th. More information on the tournament will be posted early next week.
SHU jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Fighting Scots after the first quarter of play. SHU scored four times in the first minute and nine seconds and never looked back.
Alaina TeSelle opened the scoring just 18 seconds in.
Hannah Thompson followed with two goals in twenty one seconds before
Carleigh Sutfin made it 4-0 just nine seconds later. TeSelle scored two more times in the quarter and
Jaclyn Frank and
Megan Bunker took turns assisting on each others goals for the final two Griffin goals in the quarter.
The Griffins added two more goals in the first two minutes of the second half from Sutfin and
Corynna Rotoli.
Hannah Kelley, Bunker and
Carly VanMater each added goals in the quarter as the Griffins built a 13-0 halftime lead.
Seton Hill was able to extend their lead to 17-0 after three quarters.
Piper Conlan found the back of the cage twice in the quarter while Thompson and
Ella Wroblewski each scored single goals.
Kelley, VanMater and
Kara Gosnell each scored for the Griffins in the fourth quarter.
In total, the Griffins got goals from eleven different individuals. Leading the way were TeSelle and Thompson who each had three goals and an assist. Sutfin, Conlan, Bunker, VanMater and Kelley each scored twice. Conlan added two assists while Bunker added an assist and 14 draw controls. Frank finished with a goal and three assists while Wroblewski added a goal and an assist.
Kyleigh Hessian and
Mara Guerrieri each played a half to combine for the shutout. TeSelle, Sutfin and
Grace Agnello each had three caused turnovers. Agnello led SHU with six ground balls.
The Griffins have finished off their regular season and will now await the winner of the Eastern Division quarterfinal in the PSAC Semifinals on May 6th in Greensburg.
