Baseball Picks up Road Win at West Liberty

The Griffin baseball team took a break from PSAC West play with a midweek non conference matchup at West Liberty on Tuesday afternoon.  

Seton Hill scored in each of their first five at bats as they defeated the Hilltoppers by a 7-4 score.  SHU improved to 25-14-1 overall on the season.  

SHU scored twice in the top of the first inning.  Max Mandler led off the game with a double.  He moved to third when Owen Sabol reached on an error.  Vincenzo Rauso singled to score Mandler and give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Neal McDermott singled to load the bases.  Sabol scored when Isaiah DiAndreth reached on a fielders choice.  

The Griffins added a run in the second inning.  With one out, Jake Orr singled and stole second.  He scored on a Mandler single as SHU took a 3-0 lead.  SHU added another single run in the third inning.  Rauso drew a leadoff walk and stole second.  Rauso moved to third on a McDermott ground out and scored when DiAndreth singled.  

West Liberty scored three times in the bottom half of the third to trim the Griffins lead to 4-3.  

Seton Hill got two of those runs back in the top of the fourth inning.  Orr walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.  He scored on a Mandler RBI groundout.  Sabol then drew a walk and later scored on a DiAndreth single as SHU took a 6-3 lead.  

SHU scored their final run in the top of the fifth inning.  Braden Durham drew a leadoff walk.  Noah Sweeney and Orr both singled with Durham scoring to put the Griffins in front 7-3.

Mandler led SHU with three hits and two RBIs.  DiAndreth added two hits and drove in three.  McDermott, Durham and Orr each added two hits.  Marshall McGraw threw three shutout innings in relief for the Griffins.  He struck out three.  

SHU will continue with non conference play when they host Wheeling in a single nine inning contest on Wednesday afternoon.
