Seton Hill and Pitt Johnstown met in Greensburg on Saturday afternoon in a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Johnstown. SHU was the road team in both contests.
The Griffins rallied for a 5-3 win in game one before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 win in game two. SHU is now 31-8 overall and 8-4 in the PSAC West.
Pitt Johnstown used a two out triple to score two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one.
SHU took the lead back in the fourth inning. With one out,
Brooklyn Fukushima singled and moved to third on a
Grace Paredes double.
Nina Grandey followed with a single to cut the UPJ lead to 2-1. Pinch runner
Bre Athey scored on an error to tie the score at two.
Brooke Cleland followed with a sacrifice fly to score Grandey and give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.
The Griffins added two more runs in the fifth inning.
Jenna Osikowicz singled and stole second, moving to third on an error.
Morgan Ryan singled to knock in Osikowicz. After a Fukushima single, Paredes hit a sacrifice fly which scored Ryan and gave SHU a 5-3 advantage.
UPJ scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh but
Lauren Dellett got two strikeouts and a fly out to earn the save.
Ryan won her 13th game of the season. She went five innings, giving up two unearned runs and striking out five. Dellett got the final three outs for her second save. Fukushima led the offense with three hits. Osikowicz and Grandey each added two hits.
The Griffins scored three times in the third inning of game two. With one out,
Nichole McClendon and Osikowicz singled. They both scored on a Ryan double as SHU took a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Fukushima singled to knock in pinch runner
Anna Klotz.
Chloe Elliott earned her ninth win of the season. She went 6.1 innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out seven. Dellett got the final two outs for her third save. Osikowicz, Fukushima and Grandey each had two hits.
SHU will head to IUP for an important PSAC West doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
