Seton Hill returned to Great Midwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Lake Erie at DSG Field.
After a slow start, the Griffins poured it on and cruised to a 25-5 home victory to improve to 3-0 in conference play. SHU is also 7-4 overall. Â
Thomas Hanulak got the Griffins on the board just 40 seconds into the first period. Lake Erie responded with a goal before
Andy Davis and
Demetri Yerou scored less than two minutes apart to put the Griffins in front by two. The Storm scored with 24 seconds left in the quarter before
Jack Ellis scored with three seconds to play to put SHU in front 4-2. Â
The second quarter was all Seton Hill as they outscored the Storm by an 11-1 margin.Â
McGarity Harper opened the scoring before the Storm scored to make it 5-3 with 13:25 to play. SHU then turned it on by scoring the next eighteen goals, ten of them in the second quarter.Â
Peyton Gensler had three goals, Hanulak and
Grady Arnold had two while Ellis, Harper and
Zack Estabrooks each had one in the 10-0 run. SHU took a 15-3 lead into the halftime break.
The stats were just as lopsided as the score at the half. SHU held a 42-6 advantage in shots and a 19-1 advantage in face offs with a 26-2 advantage in ground balls. Â
The third quarter was no different than the second quarter as the Griffins outscored the Storm by an 8-0 margin. Eight different Griffins scored in the quarter. Hanulak opened the scoring followed by
Blake Profio. Ellis and Estabrooks scored back to back before man up goals from
Jeremy Sforzo and
Vincent Cogliandro.Â
Blake Morrow and
Connor Zostant closed out the scoring in the quarter. Â
The teams just exchanged goals in the fourth quarter with Morrow and
Liam Markey scoring for the Griffins. Â
The shot total ended up 81-18 for the Griffins. SHU won 28 of 33 faceoffs and had a 46-14 advantage in ground balls. SHU was 5-7 in extra man opportunities and was a perfect 20-20 in clears. Â
Hanulak led SHU with four goals. Gensler added three goals and two assists. Ellis finished with three scores. Harper had five points on two goals and three assists. Arnold, Estabrooks and Morrow each scored twice. Sforzo had a goal and three assists while Davis had a goal and two assists.Â
Logan Gray was 21-22 in faceoffs. Â
The Griffins will travel to Erie next Saturday evening for an important G-MAC and regional contest with Mercyhurst under the lights. Â
