The Griffins hosted Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon at DSG Field in Greensburg in a PSAC West battle.
Seton Hill scored the game winning goal on a free position shot with 27 seconds to play in a 9-8 victory over the Lakers. SHU has now won seven straight contests and is now 11-3 on the season and 7-2 in the PSAC West.
Mercyhurst opened the game by scoring the first two goals of the game as they built an early 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest.Â
Skylar Orlowski scored just over five minutes into the contest to cut the Lakers lead in half at 2-1.Â
Alaina TeSelle then scored the final two goals of quarter to give SHU a 3-2 advantage after one period of play. TeSelle scored the final goal of the period with just seven seconds to play. Â
Carleigh Sutfin opened the scoring in the second quarter with a goal just 1:39 into the quarter. The Lakers answered with two goals in under two minutes to tie the score at four with 10:51 left in the half.Â
Grace Agnello scored on a free positon shot to put the Griffins back in front 5-4 with 9:58 to play. Less than a minute later,
Jaclyn Frank scored to push the SHU advantage to 6-4. Frank then added another goal to give SHU a 7-4 advantage.Â
Piper Conlan closed out the scoring for the Griffins in the half with a goal with 5:28 to play as SHU led 8-4 at the half. Â
The third quarter was all Mercyhurst as the Lakers outscored the Griffins 3-0 and outshot the Griffins by an 8-3 margin. The Lakers scored all of their goals in a three and a half minute stretch, the final goal of the quarter was scored at the 10:28 mark. Â
The Griffin defense began to take over after allowing those three goals. They held the Lakers off the scoreboard for over sixteen minutes before allowing the game tying goal with 8:58 to play in regulation. The defense then held the Lakers off the scoreboard for the final 8:58 setting up Agnello for the game winner. Agnello took her second free position shot with 27 seconds left and buried the shot, giving the Griffins a 9-8 lead.Â
Megan Bunker was able to pull down the next draw and the Griffins were able to run out the remaining seconds for the key PSAC West win. Â
Frank led the offense with two goals and an assist. Agnello and TeSelle each had two goals.Â
Kamille Ward finished with 11 saves to earn the win in cage. Bunker pulled down eight draw controls.Â
Makayla Kintner led the defense with three caused turnovers. Â
SHU will host Lock Haven on Wednesday afternoon in another PSAC West matchup. Â
