Griffins, Lakers Split PSAC West Doubleheader

The Griffins continued with PSAC West play with a road doubleheader in Erie against Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.  

Seton Hill won game one by a 12-3 score before the Lakers took game two by a 5-2 score to earn a split in the doubleheader.  SHU is now 27-8 overall and 4-4 in the west.  

SHU scored three times in the top of the first inning to take an early lead over the Lakers.  Nichole McClendon walked and Jenna Osikowicz reached on an error.  Morgan Toal then drove in both runners to give SHU a 2-0 lead.  Later in the inning Grace Parades singled to knock in Toal and give SHU a 3-0 lead.  

Mercyhurst got a run back in the bottom of the third inning.  The Griffins then struck for three runs in the top of the fourth inning.  With one out, Mackenzie Zang doubled.  She moved to third when Brooklyn Fukushima reached on an error.  Both runners scored when McClendon reached on an error to put SHU in front 5-0.  McClendon then scored when Osikowicz grounded out. 

The Lakers answered back with a two run homer in the fourth to trim the SHU lead to 6-3.  Paredes hit a two run homer in the fifth to push the SHU lead back to 8-3.  McClendon and Osikowicz each singled in the sixth with McClendon scoring on a wild pitch to make it 9-3. 

Anna Klotz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.  Fukushima doubled in a run and then McClendon singled in a run as SHU made it 12-3.  

Morgan Ryan won her eleventh game of the season with a complete game.  She struck out eight in the win.  

McClendon led the Griffins with three hits.  Paredes added two hits.  

Mercyhurst scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead over the Griffins.  

SHU scored twice in the seventh.  Zang was hit by a pitch.  She scored when Osikowicz tripled and scored on an overthrow as SHU cut the lead to 5-2.

Osikowicz went 4-4 for the Griffins with two RBIs.  Paredes finished with three hits.

SHU will travel to Bloomsburg for a non conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
