Baseball Swept at Slippery Rock

Seton Hill began their four game PSAC West series with a road doubleheader at Slippery Rock on Friday afternoon.

Slippery Rock tied game one in the sixth inning then hit a walk off homer in the eighth inning for a 3-2 win over the Griffins in game one.  It did not get any better for the Griffins in game two as the Rock hit six homers in a 15-4 victory over the Griffins to complete the sweep.  SHU drops to 23-9-1 overall and 9-5 in the west while the Rock improves to 21-9 overall and 7-7 in the west.

The Rock took a 1-0 lead in game one with a two out homer in the bottom of the first inning.

Seton Hill took the lead in the top of the fourth inning.  Jack Oberdorf led off with a single.  After an out, Owen Sabol also singled up the middle.  A ground out moved both runners up before Neal McDermott singled to center field, scoring both Oberdorf and Sabol to give SHU a 2-1 lead.

The Rock tied the game at two in the sixth inning with a one out double and then a single with evened the score.  Slippery Rock then won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk off homer on a 2-0 pitch with two outs.

Oberdorf led the Griffins with two hits.  McDermott drove in two runs.  Kevin Vaupel earned a no decision by going five innings.  He threw 67 pitches and allowed one run on seven hits while striking out two.

The Rock took an early lead in game two with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.  They then went back to back to back in the second inning, the first homer a three run shot, to take a 6-0 lead over the Griffins.

Oberdorf made it 6-1 in the fourth with a leadoff homer to left field in the fourth.

Slippery Rock then added five more runs in the fourth with an RBI groundout then back to back homers later in the inning.  The first one was a three run shot.

SHU then scored three times in the sixth inning.  Max Mandler had an RBI single and Nate Dorinsky had a pinch hit two RBI double.

Oberdorf and Mandler each had two hits for SHU.  Dorinsky drove in two.

The Griffins will close out the four game set on Saturday with a doubleheader in Greensburg.
