Seton Hill and Slippery Rock played for the second time this season as the Griffins hosted the Rock in Greensburg in PSAC West action.
The Griffins were able to hold off the Rock for a 13-12 win. SHU has now won six straight contests and is 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC West.
SHU jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold a 7-2 advantage over the Rock after one period of play.Â
Jaclyn Frank opened the scoring for the Griffins with a goal 3:05 into the quarter.Â
Carleigh Sutfin answered a Slippery Rock goal with a goal of her own. Sutfin picked up the draw control and went straight to goal for a goal just nine seconds after the Rock goal. Just 41 seconds later, Sutfin scored her second of the game to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.Â
Skylar Orlowski and
Megan Bunker followed with goals as SHU built their lead to 5-1 with 5:50 to play. After the Rock made it 5-2,
Hannah Thompson scored twice in the final 2:15 to give SHU the 7-2 lead. Â
Each team scored two goals in the second period. The Rock scored the first and last goals sandwiched around goals from
Alaina TeSelle and Frank. SHU led 9-4 at the halftime break. Â
The Rock opened the scoring in the second half with the first two goals of the third quarter. Orlowski scored the lone Griffin goal of the quarter at the 8:17 mark as SHU led 10-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Â
Slippery Rock scored 1:09 into the fourth quarter as the Griffins led just 10-7 early in the quarter. The Griffins then scored three times in just over three minutes to build their lead back to 13-7 with 9:33 to play.Â
Grace Agnello opened the fourth quarter scoring for SHU and then TeSelle scored the final two. The Rock scored the final five goals of the game including three in the final 1:33 of the contest. Â
TeSelle led the Griffins with three goals. Frank added two goals and six assists. Thompson added two goals and an assist. Sutfin and Orlowski each scored two.Â
Kamille Ward made seven saves in cage for the win. Both
Makayla Kintner and
Dalanie Tompkins each led the defense with four caused turnovers. Kintner added six draw controls and four ground balls. Â
SHU will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst. Â
