Huge 1st & 4th Quarters Carry Griffins to PSAC West Win

Seton Hill began round two of the PSAC West schedule with a road match at Indiana (PA) on Sunday afternoon.  The Griffins were looking for a little revenge after dropping the first meeting in overtime. 

The Griffins were able to get that revenge as they used huge first and fourth quarters in a 16-7 win over the Crimson Hawks.  SHU outscored IUP 11-1 in the first and fourth quarters.  Seton Hill moved into a tie for first place in the PSAC West with the win.  SHU is now 9-3 overall and 5-2 in PSAC West play.  

Both teams were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the contest but the Griffins caught fire, scoring three times in just over a minute to take the 3-0 lead.  Skylar Orlowski and Carleigh Sutfin scored 39 seconds apart and then Megan Bunker scored 37 seconds later to put SHU in front 3-0.  Piper Conlan then scored twice as SHU built a 5-0 lead with 2:56 to play in the quarter.  IUP then scored on their only shot of the quarter as the Griffins held a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.  

IUP scored the first three goals of the quarter as they were able to keep the Griffins off the scoreboard for over sixteen minutes.  Up by just a goal, Orlowski and Sutfin scored in the final 1:30 of the half to give SHU a 7-4 halftime lead.  

The Crimson Hawks opened the second half by scoring the first two goals as they trimmed the Griffins lead to 7-6 with 12:10 to play in the quarter.  Just over a minute later Bunker scored to give SHU an 8-6 advantage.  Alaina TeSelle then scored back to back goals to extend the SHU lead to 10-6 with just over five minutes left in the quarter.  IUP scored the final goal of the quarter as SHU led 10-7 heading to the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was all Seton Hill as they scored the only six goals of the quarter.  Frank, Bunker and TeSelle scored to put the Griffins in front 13-7 with 11:33 remaining in the game.  Frank, Bunker and Conlan closed out the scoring for the Griffins.  

The Griffins dominated the stats sheet in the win.  SHU outshot the Crimson Hawks 42-14 and held a 27-12 advantage in shots on goal.  The Griffins held a 20-7 

Bunker led the Griffins with a game high four goals and 13 draw controls.  TeSelle and Conlan each scored three goals.  Frank scored twice and added a career high nine assists for a career high eleven points.  Sutfin and Orlowski each added two goals and an assist.  Kamille Ward recorded five saves in the win.  Dalanie Tompkins had a game high four caused turnovers and added three ground balls.  

Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday afternoon when they host Slippery Rock.
